Say there was a cherry, original '81 GP sitting on FB marketplace for months in the Chesapeake backwoods of MD and the guy listing it has continued to drop the price incrementally, and its driving you crazy. Seems like a better investment than the $5K I've had riding on Southwest Airlines that took a dive when the pilots called in sick last weekend, right? Might go look at it this weekend; supposed to rain Sunday anyhow.

Originally listed as a 301 car, and I was prepared to keep it Pontiac. The listing NOW indicates it is a 267ci car. Well, that's a chevy engine, right?

Question, can I treat the 267 like a 305 and swap a 350 and use the accessories (AC, PS, alternator, water pump, flexplate, etc.) and use the CCC computer? I couldn't reuse that 2B carb and intake, right? That'd be dumb. Give it a 4.8L LS1?

Greetings! That sounds like one sweet ride and I agree, money vested in the G bodies are better than stocks any day in my own personal opinion. As far as the 267, I have owned a few and were happy with them, if you find a 350 from that era, everything should bolt right up from the 267

It might be a 265. The 301s little brother. In that case it's a Pontiac

I had a 267 in a 80 lemans .
Slowest car I’ve ever owned , I always felt like I was taking my life in my hands pulling into traffic , old ladies passing me while flipping me the bird was common .
Almost got a loitering ticket when I was caught trying to drag race it lol
Too light to be an effective anchor , I’m not sure what they were designed for

1981 Grand Prix and LeMans engine options, the LeMans wagon could still get the 301, one was on eBay a few months ago, the vast majority seem to be 3.8’s though.

Looks like the owner realized the GP isn’t a 301 but a 265

He did say it was a 4.3L, so I did some math and figured it was a 267. Good to know what to expect, that it will be a pontiac 265. Didn't even know it existed.

Seems like a boat anchor. We'll see how it runs - current owner says it runs well. I'll see.

Unless it came from Canada. Nearly everything from 81 had the wonderous 267 up here, for that year. My BIL had a 81 Cutlass with one and a parts car as well. A pretty big turd, think Olds 260, same 3.5" bore and tiny valves. Ford had a 265, same thing. We worked on one at a Ford dealer in a 81 Thunderbird, acted like a 302, until we looked under the hood. My other BIL bought a 267 to put in his 70 Chevelle when he blew up the 327, paid $50 for it. Even worthless in 1990. It probably is a 265, which is a 4.3, the 267 is a 4.4 but never say never. A real Pontiac V8 would bolt right in, the biggest bonus.

I worked for a Buick Dealer and we were able to order our own demos. Many of us drove Regals and when I saw the 301 was no longer available for '81, I started looking into the V6 combinations.
I was able to get a 3.8 with 3.08 gears, whereas the V8's only had 2.41 or so, with no alternative choices. My little 3.8's out ran all the other guy's 4.3 V8's, as well as the bigger 4.1 4 bbl. V6 in subsequent years, which also had no optional axle ratios.
That all ended in '85, when the 5.0 Olds motor came available in a Regal.
Still a dog, but it was all relative in the 80's.
