Sounds like you have good plans. Making project lists on paper, yes, I said paper, will help you to visualize your project better and get a visualized cost analysis. Remember, things cost more than expected and take longer than expected. Getting the car solid first is always the better plan then going for "bling" item first. However, sometimes they are one in the same. Who cares how nice it looks if it always breaks down.

I try to purchase most everything I need for each project before I start but there are always additional things needed to complete the projects that need to be bought at the time the project is being done.

We are here to help. Ask questions.
Thank you for your support 👍🏻

One of the first things I noticed that needed replacement was my cooling system. Especially needed for the next months of Texas heat. Though, I liked the patina on my water pump lol(satire). That thang was rusted more than a poop shovel. So I took matters into my own hands along with my girlfriends dad since I did need the help. 10 hours, a trip to Autozone and Cici’s, and a couple of misplaced bolts later, the high flow water pump from Summit was on and done…but upon starting her up and idling for a bit, I noticed the engine still turning after turning the engine off…hmmm (incoming head gasket issues) 🫠
Don’t worry guys, things like that are gonna happen a lot more later on due to my lack of knowledge along with a passion for gettin’er done. I know a lot more now though.

I don't know a lot about the CCC cars but it sounds like your timing is a bit advanced. Retarding it a little may help with the dieseling.

While driving on the highway my car just turned off and had no power to the ignition at all. Thought to be my ignition switch so I replaced it but no luck…turns out it was my fusible link that was cooked up and has bad contact from the starter to my ignition.
Oh well, two birds-one stone and half.

My carb started leaking gas from the middle gasket so I picked a Qjet from Summit racing and installed it with no real issue except for a stripped gas line that was tightened with some pressure pliers.

I hope you didn't trade in your factory original Qjet. People often have trouble with Qjets from mass remanufacturers. That is why its generally best to rebuild the original carb.

The mounting bolts should be torqued to 144 lb/in to avoid warping the airhorn.

Odd note here, but the run-on issue was prevalent coming from the factory. GM's solution was to energize the AC compressor when you turn the key to "off".

When EPA forced the removal of lead from fuel, octane dropped and caused multiple runnability issues.

GM lowered compression, increased base timing to 14, increased base idle rpm, leaned out the mix. Then CCC (C3) came along to control emissions and knock sensors to retard timing when detonation was noted. Along with that went overdrive transmissions with super low first gear and high final drive ratio in the rear end, and locking converters.

On the Q-Jet... Yes rebuild your own. When ready to reinstall, turn the mixture screws out 1/2 to 1 turn from stock setting. This will richen up the idle and then will idle better and smother around 700 RPM. Problem should go away.
