Danny and I got the engine accessories, brackets, etc. cleaned, painted, and put back on the engine today. We also installed new motor mounts, and did a little cleaning, and painting in the engine cradle area. I'm not going to do any heavy painting or detailing under the hood as this is my daily driver. About 9 months ago I completely removed, and replaced all the suspension. While the suspension was off we stripped the frame to bare metal and used a good undercoating on it. It looked great, but now you cant even tell everything down there is new. When you drive in rain, and whatever else you have to drive in, things get dirty, so I figure the best I can do is keep the metal coated so it doesn't rust.

Engine is back in. Haven't fired it yet, but I will tomorrow. All thats left is exhaust, torque converter bolts, starter. Nothing says 80's oem like vacuum hoses and crap everywhere. We got that covered!:giggle: I even put a fresh 305 emissions decal on it.

Matt

First of all, let me start by apologizing for taking so long to update this thread. The reason for the extra time was upon start up two weeks ago it was knocking, and it sounded like a rod, so I only let it run 10 seconds, and shut it off, closed the hood and went home. The strange thing was it had 50+ pounds of oil pressure. I think my son was more dissapointed than I was. So, the following weekend we pulled it back out to see what happened. We pulled the oil pan, and I proceeded to start pulling rod caps, everything looked perfect, so I pulled the main cap, also perfect. Upon closer inspection of the oil pan, I noticed a shiny spot on the baffle in the bottom of the oil pan. If I had let this thing run a minute or so it would have self clearanced. :blam: Its funny I had to rotate the engine 2 full revolutions when I was setting my valve lash, and I never felt any tight spots. Anyway, a light smack with my rubber mallat ended that problem. We reinstalled the engine yesterday, and go it running today. It came to life today with no knocks, and ran perfectly. It has plenty of power, and will destroy the one tire with ease (no posi yet). :giggle: You can be rolling about 40, mash the throttle, it downshifts back to first, and proceeds to start spinning the tire again. Now the problem is, I don't think the trans can handle much of this, and is already showing signs of slipping, so we'll be taking it easy for awhile, until I can afford a fresh trans.
This video is a very poor video, and I really wanted to make another, but I don't think that would be in the transmissions best interest. I.m sure you will be able to hear my sons enthusiastic comments with the cars new found power, and you may even pick up on a little spark knock from the engine, as it still had the 87 in the tank from the 305. I've since added 93, and no more detonation. The timing is set to 34 degrees total advance. I will try to get another video up, of a walk around with it running soon. Thanks
Matt
