New member here. Finally got started on swapping my monte carlo. Gen 3 iron block with gen 4 internals, ss2 cam, emusa gt45, deka 80s. Using a harness I reworked and hptuners. Just got the motor buttoned up tonight and starting dropping it in but hit some snags. Cherry picker boom is a fuzz short so doesn't help. Cracked the heater box but plan on taking it out at this point. Will get it in tomorrow

What are you going with for a transmission? Rear end? Had you considered a 7875 instead of the gt45?

Hi Cobbelstone, welcome to GBF from Seattle, Wa.
Your electrical is looking good, and convenient there on the driver side. I notice that the battery is also on the driver side. Did you relocate it there?, or was it on that side before?

Plans are to keep up with the local guys that race. I have a 37 Willy's pickup I built with a healthy small block but it's not enough anymore. Would rather leave it the way it is.

I'm gonna run the th350c that's in it. Has a 3kish stall. Not sure how long it will last but I have a power glide that will take it's place when it does lay down. 7.5 on the rear end, thinking about adjustable control arms and getting a locker with some lower gears. I believe it has some 2.xxs in it. 8.8 swap if it doesn't hold which it should unless I dead hook at the track. I had the turbo already, honestly may go with a billet 7875 after I line all the kinks out and get comfortable with the build.

No it was on the passenger side originally. When I started wiring everything I got a little hasty and mounted it on the driver side not realizing it's going to be in the way of the IC piping. Moving to the trunk soon.

I hope you are not going to rely on the stock drive shaft for that setup.
It will twist up like a straw.

Many g-body ls turbo cars have utilized stock driveshafts......and I don't recall any of them failing......although probably not a bad idea for peace of mind. The weak link in the OP's build is obviously the stock rear.....that will destruct looooong before the driveshaft does.

I can certainly appreciate using parts that you already own.......but a gt45 will be a bit sluggish on a 4.8 relative to a 7875. Even the cheapo ebay $280 7875 turbos have decent reliability (VS Racing would be better.....but at twice the price).

I need to invest some money elsewhere before I buy another turbo but I do plan on going VS eventually.

Motor is in though. I'm never doing a swap again with clamshells. I'll fab mounts for Impala big block rubbers if I end up LS swapping anything in the future.
Mocked up the manifolds and turbo. Looks good except the driver side manifold is gonna have to be hacked and turned in to miss the frame. And if anyone's curious what manifolds I went with MMI's cast kit for $334.99
Little by little right?
