3800 rpm @ 55 is pretty high... what gears/trans did you have in it? is it kicking into O/D?

Still has stock TH200 with stock 7.5 rear end

I hope the performance shop can look into it when I take it for a time/tune
I'm not that great with carbs and we did most of the tuning by ear.

I have a TH200 and 3:42's in my cutlass and it is no where near 3800rpm at 55

Carb tuning won’t cause that high of rpms... since you don’t have overdrive, is it shifting into third?

Agreed. 20 at hot idle is probably fine. 3800 at 55mph? That doesn't sound right. Can you feel it shift into each gear and lock up? What rear gears?

I honestly didn't notice the shift. one thing I wasn't paying attention to was the transmission I will take her out again and dial in to check. I wouldnt be surprised if it's not shifting right. I was so focused on engine and the temp and oil.

Oh and I'm not sure on gears. I think it's stock 7.5 but don't know the gear. Axle doesn't have any numbers I can find and I don't know how to figure out what gears I have otherwise

Sounds like its just not shifting out of 2nd.
You can jack it up and put it in neutral. Chalk mark the tire and driveline. Rotate both tires while counting driveline revolutions. Look for something like 2.29, 2.56, or 2.73 driveline rotations for 1 tire revolution.
Or better yet, service the rearend and read the numbers on the ring gear. It's probably way past due anyway.
