That pushrod end looks machined, like it was made that way. Take all the pushrods out and roll them on a piece of glass (known flat surface). If they don't roll smooth, they are bent, and could be the cause of the noise. Remove the lifters ONE AT A TIME, and check. You'll know right away if one is the problem, it will be hard to remove. A bum lifter not pumping up or one that has flattened it's lobe will make noise as well.
Thanks. I did roll them as i took them out. All perfectly flat
As for the shape Thats the only one of the 8 on that side with the wear and only on top. All the rest are perfectly round top and bottom
Could it be a bad or frozen lifter? They all came out very easily

Should i change bad pushrod and lifters in cylinder 8 and leave the rest alone? Will that make things worse? Im wondering if the lifter was bad and caused that weird wear on the pushrod
Im worried it would be a waste of money to do all that and put everything back together and problem is still present. Can i check the cam through the lifter hole with a long dial indicator to see if they match? Will that help? Or should i just pull the motor?

Bring the lifter and pushrod to a machine shop let them check it against a new one.

See if they have an answer why it wore down like that

If you are removing the AIR system get rid of those two ports inside the intake. They unscrew and you can plug them with flat allen head brass plugs.

It does make a difference

So i have been prepping everything to get ready for reinstall. I decided to keep this cheap and just replace the lifters on #8 and all new sealed power pushrods. The original ball end ones. Got em on rock auto for $.91 each. Same one that were in there. This engine will not be in here forever so i dont want to dump a ton of money into it. With new gaskets and egr valve (everything on rockauto wholesale clearance) im in for $100 or so

Mostly putting in labor in getting the deck ready, cylinder heads, intake and exhaust manifolds etc

Hit everything with POR-15 hi-temp. Two coats, then sprayed the intake manifold with a 3rd coat of engine enamel in gloss black to pretty it up

Then i stripped the old paint off the valve covers to do it right

They are soaking in rustmort now
Then Will be hit with high temp primer and red engine enamel. I skipped the primer last time

Hopefully changing the lifters helps. I think from the car sitting for 5 years without running the lifter seized or something. Who knows
Fingers crosses

Today i wiped down the Valve covers with acetone and hit them with three coats of duplicolor high temp engine enamel with ceramic primer

Looks pretty good

Tomorrow will hit it with the red duplicolor
