The down side; If you sell it as is you will get hammered on the price and get little for it. Although you would get dramatically less for a regular Cutlass. The upside the 442 has a real market, book, even bank lending value of more than a Cutlass and the spread between the two will always get greater. ie you can put some money into it and at least get more out of it than putting money into a regular Cutlass. Especially the closer to original it stays in general. What I mean is for example headers and true dual exhaust would not likely hurt the value but chopping the top or tubbing it would. Which also allows some room for you to "make it yours" without butchering the value.

My 87 442 was a good example. I did a macco paint job and rebuilt a salvage Cadillac 500 and put it in as well as having a performance rebuild on the transmission. The car wasn't entirely finished but ran and generally looked nice. I kept the "vin 9" engine to go with the car for the concors restoration type guy. Unfortunately I had to sell the car and quickly (after he got a short ride  ) sold the car for my asking price of $7,000. In this unusual case and because I did as much of the labor as possible myself I actually turned a small profit on the car. BTW You can see it in my pics.

PS FWIW You know if you sell her she will likely end up boping down the hood up on dubs with a sbc in her and a cluster fock of wires.

I decided to go ahead and pull the engine and rebuild it. I was wondering if anyone can tell me how tough it is to pull the engine and also how long it should take me to do so. Thanks.

hey there..............recently pulled the engine out of my 85 salon. did'nt rebuild it but did a transplant from an 86 brougham. took about a full day, maybe two to get the engine out if your by youself. maybe quicker with help. about the same goin back in. pretty easy really, all the rebuild stuf if your doing it yourself............i got no idea there, as all i did was regasket and repaint everything i could. basically stripped it down to the block with the crank and pistons. that took a few weeks to complete.

if your gettin the rebuild done by someone else then basically a couple or weekends minus rebuild time and its really pretty easy

Thanks for the information. Does anybody have an idea of what the car would be worth with the engine running good?
