nice work on your build. i like the color red you chose, its different and will probably look real nice in the sun. i think im also going to black out my trim because im doing my own build for my 85 cutlass, what kind of paint did you use to do it?

good decision taking the vinyl top off, you will have one pretty cool car when its done, cant wait to see what it looks like back together...keep up the good work. 8)

I was planning on taking the vinyl off myself. Can you give any advice on doing it? And do you need the quarter windows off a ht car?

yes you will need the 1/4 windows off of a ht plus rear window trim off of a ht car, or you could just build that yourself if your up for it  also be prepared, and outlaw said its not pretty under those vinyl tops there is the 20+ year old padding and bondo that needs to be removed.

For the black trim? I used SEM Hot Rod black, it's a 3 part urethane and it looks real slick. I think gloss black trim and bumpers look a bit like tremclad and flat black looks like primer, this is right in the middle. Love the stuff.....i've used SEM trim black out of a spray bomb before but this stuff sprays super nice. I sprayed everything in epoxy primer first and cleaned the crap out the parts. Takes less than a quart to do everything. A lot of guys are spraying their whole cars with this. A guy on utube sprayed his brand new Challenger with it and it looked awesome.

Blackbetty, i found the old bondo fairly easy to remove and was very soft but there was lots of pitting in the metal from the moisture where the molding clip retaining pins were.....mine was quite mild but some of the guys on this forum have posted some pics of what they discovered underneath and they look nasty. Once you peel the top off, your committed.

Hey Outlaw.

Where did you pick up the SEM Hot Rod Black from? I've been looking on the net and have only been able to find Landau Black and a Glossy Black. Looking for something not so flat but not so shiny.

Thanks.

I was thinking of a similar colour next year. I am patching up the white for one my year. Dark red looks great on a Cutlass. That vinyl roof is something a body shop can remove. One of the few things I won't do myself is major body work. I want it to look really straight, not somewhat passable if I do it.
