What's up guys, I picked up an 86 Monte Carlo LS about a month ago with a non running 350. Car is in pretty good shape aside from a pretty good dent on the drivers door and even came with the factory hubcaps. Car appears to have broke the timing chain as the previous owner left the timing cover off, doesn't appear to have any other work done to the engine....including EVER changing the oil!

My plan for now is to get it running using my junkyard 350. It's got a 214/214 @50 106 LSA cam and a set of what appear to be aftermarket Vortec type heads I found at the yard. I'm going to run the stock 2004r and see how it goes, I've been traveling a lot lately and with the weather I've only been able to work on it on weekends.

Here is the car sitting at my friends tow in lot where I bought it.

Passenger side looks pretty good and interior isn't too bad.

First order of business was unbolting everything and pulling the old 350 out.

Bye Bye CCC

A crazy mess of wires, hoses, sensors, senders etc hooked up to the 305

Ask me how much fun it was pushing this heavy b*st*rd up onto that concrete pad! Just moved into this building and my buddy is going to have some gravel delivered to build up a driveway.

Must've been a million things to pull off to get this thing out, even the exhaust was bolted to the crossmember at the transmission.

My buddy who owns the building I'm using for a shot got a little mad because I spilled a "touch" of transmission fluid.

Sitting in there all pretty and stuff...except for the yellow balancer. I should probably paint that at some point.

Since I'm dumping the CCC stuff I had to get a torque converter lockup kit for the 2004r

Remove the pan and drain the fluid

And replace with this and splice into the lockup soleinoid

Another picture of the engine coming out, did all that EGR stuff they put on the motor actually help with Emissions?

So my buddy who owns the building where I work on my car has gotten back into cars since I've been working on mine. I found a Malibu on Craigslist emailed him that morning and he went and bought it and had it delivered. Then he went out and found this beauty, 2001 60,000 miles! I can't wait to do this swap it'll be the first time with one of the LS motors for me.

We're going to clean it up and throw a cam in, Car Craft says they got 420hp out of the same thing with only a cam change. Too bad the cams they offer for this think all start around 400 bucks.
