Hello All: We are stumped by our monte ss. It's been stored 5 years in climate controlled garage. Did full tune up, exhaust, brakes etc. Drove great for a week, coming home lost voltage and power, Put on new alternator, fuel pump, C02 sensor, no change. Pulled CCC carb put on good Qjet and non computer HEI, set timing, no change. unhooked EGR, no change. The car starts and idles but put in drive and will not accelerate more than 10mph.
HELP PLEASE!

Plugged cat?

Wondering same thing as an exhaust restriction.

If not, what does the transmission fluid look and smell like?

Any trouble codes or did you pull the computer since using non c carb and hei dist?

Plugged fuel line?

Just some ideas of issues I could think of that I had or others I knew with similar drivability issue.

Good luck.

Replaced fuel lines and fuel filter. transmission fluid is clean. Have not checked the cat. Will do that and let you know.

Removing the ccc carb and dist usually causes more problems than it solves, big mistake right there. Sounds like you have a fuel supply problem, the fuel can' t keep up with throttle opening.

Remove the O2 sensor and take it for a spin. if it regains some of the power the cat is plugged.

I use the laser temp gun to check a cat, let the car run for 20-30 minutes. Then use the temp gun, the back should be at least 7° hotter than the front. If the front is hotter than the back, then the cat is plugged

Plugged cat will usually give a distinct engine sound too. The sound of extra labor. Almost a wheezing tone. Hard to describe but you know it when you hear it.

The temp gun tip is great.

Back to basics...hang a vacuum gage...start and run it up to around 2 or 3k revs...looked at gage for normal run vacuum, let off the throttle all at once...collapsed exhaust/ clogged convertor will show as a almost total loss of vacuum...as someone said it sounds weird too, like a vacuum cleaner with a full bag or canister, or a clogged filter...usually a badly clogged or collapsed exhaust will stall like a bad egr on coast down...sometimes gotta feather the pedal to make it or keep it running...
