I inherited my dad's 1986 olds gutless sup brougham. I'm having trouble with the transmission. My dad wanted to keep it original bc it belonged to my mamaw and they bought it brand new. So when the engine wore out him and my uncle rebuilt it. They didn't however do anything to the transmission. And it went out. It has been setting for about 10 years and is in 100 % perfect shape except the transmission. It has no power and I'm not sure what I'm dealing with. It had the v8 and a 2004r in it. The over drive. I need some advice!

Since it's been sitting I bet the seals dried up and the fluid leaked out.

Have you check the fluid level?

Depends on your goals here.

Are you going to do it yourself?
Are you going to Have it done?

Transmissions being rebuilt is best done by a transmission shop.. even for more advanced mechanics, its a bit out of our league. Having it out of the vehicle, tho... would save you some good money.

The 200-R4 (4 Speed Overdrive Transmission) is good to about 375hp.. so it should be able to handle whatever small block thrown at it considering it is a stock or mild configuration. Just have it rebuilt.

The 200-4R is the most basic overdrive ever. A basic rebuild can be accomplished with an ATSG manual, hand tools and basic measuring devices. If you're not comfortable with that, why not pull it yourself and find a local rebuilder with a good rep go through it?
