Hello all I hope everyone is doing good so as you all know my car was stolen and then I got it back, well the people who stole the car decided to break off my antenna which is a power antenna, my question is would I have to replace the whole motor and what not or can I just replace the antenna it’s self? Thanks in advance and happy holidays!

Would you even be able to find replacement parts for it?

GM p/n 22058583 is a replacement tube/antenna/nylon cord assembly. They're discontinued and certainly not cheap if you can find them. But cheaper than the entire motor/antenna tube. They include the entire antenna assembly, minus the bottom section (motor). Obviously you'll need to reuse your antenna fender mounting nut/adapter. And you'll need to transfer the tube mounting bracket from your old antenna tube to the new one.

$159.85 shipped to your door. Cheapest one on fleabay.

Otherwise, you'll need to get the entire assembly. The new GM number I believe isn't the same in quality or fitment. It seems more generic.

Unless you can find a good used one somewhere.

Except for the near impossibility of being able to get a wrench, socket, or otherwise, on the lag bolt coming back through the inner fender from the engine side after you have managed to take the entire fender loose to gain access to the antenna assembly.

Good news? If you happen to have a complete front control arm replacement in your near future, you can sit facing out from as far in as you can slide your butt once the hub spindle, sway bar, steering assy, control arms, and suspension are out of the way, bend down the inner fender engine splash protection or remove it if you want . . . and then you can actually see the bolt head though I still needed [2] wiggles at the socket and on the wrench with an 8" extension in between to actually get on it.

Piece of cake . . .

At least with where it was placed on my 87 442. If it in a slightly different position on your car so you can see it, feel it, and/or otherwise get a wrench on yours short of the above procedure, then you only need to hassle with taking the front fender loose to gain access to the old antenna.

Not trying to discourage you though I likely have. Just know what you are getting into . . .

Still aggravated that with a small access hole on the inner fender covered with a slide hinge cover and one screw? 10 minute job . . .

And to add, because some of these tubes and NOS antenna complete assemblies and repair parts have the PLASTIC cable per original, they age in the box/package and you still run the possibility of them not lasting all that long. There seems to be a fix though with an aftermarket STEEL cable replacement. It's simply the top section of the antenna and you'll need to swap that out on a tube or complete unit if you don't want to have problems with flexing 200 year old plastic and hoping it won't break in 4 or 5 years, or months, and you'll be doing this again. In your case because someone broke yours off, you got to get a good working mast assembly first. It seems it has the incorrect finial on top for the Cutlass (not sure about other makes) but if you have yours, you can swap it out or simply leave as is.

If you just need a repair kit for the cable and top section of the mast (includes bottom seal, cable, top mast- but not the finial) and absolutely WANT a GM part, it's GM part number 22038195 superseded to 19151297. I think the only reason they even do aftermarket replacement cables now is because the same part fit Corvettes. Those guys always get repro stuff made. But if it fits our cars, it's a win!

Again, not cheap, but it's around the going price of the repair cables that are plastic, maybe just a couple bucks more but shipping is included for $51.99 from Mike's Montes. He's not the only one out there with them, but it's just one option. And should last a whole lot longer. I'm considering doing this on my 87 442 since the cable finally gave up the ghost and I'm going to have to swap it out with a new tube assembly. I have the assembly, just haven't bothered to do it yet.

Yes for me it’s just the mast. They basically bent it and broke it off I’m assuming to open the door. I was wondering if I would still have to remove the whole antenna assembly to change this out.
