got a quick performance 9 inch housing kit for my 81 malibu. about the only thing left to purchase is the pinion yoke for the center section. there is a long and short pinion yoke from what i have seen so far. would like to get the correct one to avoid getting a new driveshaft. has anybody done this swap and what yoke did you use to avoid the new driveshaft?

You don't have a yoke at all now? If not you'll need to push the trans yoke in to the appropriate depth and start measuring to get the needed length. Mine had a short Strange yoke to begin with. I moved to a billet long yoke to get my trans yoke where I wanted it. The previous owner made the driveshaft too short.

no, have not bought a yoke yet. still getting stuff together to assemble the punkin. won't start this install until about sept. just thought someone might have a similar 9 inch install. looks like the 9 inch punkin might stick out more towards front which would make the stock driveshaft too short. but then again the quick performance g-body housing might not require any driveshaft modifications. thats where the short and long yokes come into play.

i want to finish the center section and i'll need the yoke to do that so i may have to make a guess on which one to use now. to make it a little interesting i have the Daytona alum. pinion support so it looks like i'll have to get one made for the Daytona support or modify a stock yoke. not sure if the long and short are for the Daytona support or both will fit. thanks for the reply.

Call Quickperformance and ask. I used a Strange 1350 yoke on mine, it's in my build thread if you want the part number and driveshaft specs I used on my build.

If you had a 7.5 in it, You need the short yoke if you dont want to cut your driveshaft

Reusing the driveshaft shouldn't even be mentioned. This is the time to get one made with 1350 joints.
thank you for the reply. current driveshaft was new to this car about 5 yr. ago. 1350's are nice but this is a small cam street small block with street tires. would like to use the current driveshaft as it solved some vibration problems when installed back then and don't want to revisit those pita problems again.
