DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE THE HEATER BOX GOES IF YOU REMOVE THE A/C AND PLACE A PIECE OF SHEET METAL OVER THE HOLE IN THE FIREWALL. UNDER THE DASH? HOW DOES IT VENT? I AM TRYING TO GO LOW BUDGET AND NOT SPEND $180 ON A A/C DELETE AND I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO LOCATE A USED HEATER ONLY FIREWALL COVER. THANKS

Never saw one in a g-body, but basically the fan just needs to properly pull air through the heater coil to function. In an old panel van work truck, the core mounted in a sheetmetal mount drew in air from the cab &the fan in a box under the hood area blew it back to the vents. If you can easily fab sheetmetal you could make something . The heater core could probably pretty much just sit where it currently is, remove portion of plastic box where ac coil is & fill back in. Heat & ac coils are inline with each other, each being shut off & on as needed. You WILL still have some stuff under the hood unless you find an old aftermarket unit to fabricate into the inside space under the dash, like an aftermarker ac/heat unit would.
Junkyard panel trucks may be a source for cheap.
Hope this gives you a little direction.

if you just remove the hvac unit and replace it with a sheet metal cover then basically you render the heater inop... they do sell a heater conversion kit that converts the a/c hvac unit but retains the blower motor...

Or you could track down a factory non a/c box BUT it entails more then just the box,it includes removing the dash and switching over the ductwork, controls, glovebox, and adding dummy vents, under dash controls specific fan and heater core etc etc... I decided that route and it just looks ALOT more original then the cover or the aftermarket unit. There are guys who have successfully converted the a/c unit to non a/c.. I have a couple non a/c boxes and could possibly piece together a semi complete kit... but it would run you a bit seeing as it's a big item... but if you want just the box PM me we can work something out...

Thanks for the help.
I have a 1980 El Camino, the engine and tranmission are out of the car right now and I have the front clip removed. I thought it would be a good time for a few mods, the car sat for approx. five or six years for berfore I bought it. I don't need A/C and I saw some pictures of GBody big block conversions with a flat piece of sheet metal over sthe firewall however, I did't know if they were running without a heater, because I'll need that!
