So when I bought the car I knew the trunk would not open. Previous owner had been jacking with it trying to force it open. When I got the car home, and was inspecting / cleaning, I came across the problem... The actuator / rod is disconnected from the latch assembly. I found it hanging out of the spare tire well's drain hole. ( see pic ) How should I go about fixing this?? Even if I remove the rear seat, I don't think I'll be able to reach the latch assembly ( by hand ) in an Aero car. Should I just carefully drill the lock cylinder? Luckily, I have the parts car here for any replacement parts ( cylinder, latch, striker, etc. ). I've never had this problem before.

Problem #2 is the air cleaner stud. The previous owner has forced an SAE nut onto the metric stud. I could not remove the nut, so I had to use vice grips on the visible threads to get the stud out, in order to get the air cleaner lid off. Come to find out the stud is also bent on the carb side... I found the original air cleaner wing nut in the console...WTF?? So... I need a air cleaner stud. The one off of the parts car is too short, and the lid is also a different shape, so I can't swap the whole assembly either. The stud I need is offset ( 2 barrel Dualjet ) and is 5.25" tall. Anybody have one? Thanks for the help guys!

i would remove the rear seat, back and bottom cushions. grab all your 3/8 extensions, borrow some if you have to and remove the bolts that attach the latch to the trunk lid. yes its a pain in the ars to hang onto all of that but it can be done.

James,
I found an offset stud, but it looks considerably longer than the one you have. This one measures out at 7 3/4". You're welcome to it if you'd like. It may work in your situation.
Let me know, I'll gladly send it to you.

I'm going to try this first. I'm feeling better about this option.

I'll try this second.

As for the air cleaner stud. The one pictured seems to be the original, since it fits as should, just boogered up on both ends. It's a Olds V8 2 barrel Dualjet. The parts car is a Pontiac V8 2 barrel Dualjet, with a different shaped air cleaner, and the air cleaner stud is too short.

Jack, does it have enough threads on each end so I could trim an inch on each end? The longer studs are typically used on truck applications, with a deeper air cleaner assembly. If you think it could be trimmed to apprx. 6" I would gladly try to put it to good use. Either way... THANKS!!

I knew I could count on you guys!

James, Here's a pic of what it looks like. One end has about 1" of thread, the other about 3/4".
I suppose it could be shortened, but then I guess it would need to be rethreaded.

I'll keep it in mind. I'm going to hit a few J-Yards this weekend. Thank you!

You're welcome.
If you don't find one, I'd be happy to send it to you. Btw, it's threaded differently at each end. One end is metric M6 x 1.0, the other end is 1/4-20 SAE...go figure. At any rate, I was able to run a die on each end and extend the thread.
