So when I bought the car I knew the trunk would not open. Previous owner had been jacking with it trying to force it open. When I got the car home, and was inspecting / cleaning, I came across the problem... The actuator / rod is disconnected from the latch assembly. I found it hanging out of the spare tire well's drain hole. ( see pic ) How should I go about fixing this?? Even if I remove the rear seat, I don't think I'll be able to reach the latch assembly ( by hand ) in an Aero car. Should I just carefully drill the lock cylinder? Luckily, I have the parts car here for any replacement parts ( cylinder, latch, striker, etc. ). I've never had this problem before.
Problem #2 is the air cleaner stud. The previous owner has forced an SAE nut onto the metric stud. I could not remove the nut, so I had to use vice grips on the visible threads to get the stud out, in order to get the air cleaner lid off. Come to find out the stud is also bent on the carb side... I found the original air cleaner wing nut in the console...WTF?? So... I need a air cleaner stud. The one off of the parts car is too short, and the lid is also a different shape, so I can't swap the whole assembly either. The stud I need is offset ( 2 barrel Dualjet ) and is 5.25" tall. Anybody have one? Thanks for the help guys!
