Not many comments that really give the correct length in the other threads.
Can anyone post the length of the right cable to use in a Malibu with a V8 ? A quick search in rockauto came up with 3 different cables. 22.75, 23.50 and 24.25.

My GM literature indicates part number 1254180, doesn't indicate length but says Labeled HU. Bing search for that part number shows a link for aftermarket calling it 22.75 inches long. I checked for my '84 305 on rockauto and it only shows one at 24.25 inches. Presume mounting is the same and better to be too long than too short? Or you could buy them all then return the two you don't like? Sorry I don't have more definitive advice for you.

Thanks. This is a pain in the butt. I had a cable but the tabs for the firewall end broke and I tossed it. Im really hoping someone that just did this will notice the post and give me the right length.

305 4bbl? 2bbl? which application do you have? Or want?

Sorry to be a dlck about it, but Malibu with a V8 covers a lot of ground.

But, with limited info to zero in on it, JimmyCamino is right, the 1254180 coded HU (79 lists same part number but HLL code. WTF?) seems to be the one for the 4 bbl. Used pretty much for Malibu and Monte Carlo or just about any A/G body from 78-88 with a 305 4 bbl. Makes sense. My information puts it at 23.2" long which is right in line with your middle length of 23.5 that you've found.

For the 1254180, the ATP Y-205 and Pioneer CA-8475 seems to be the aftermarket replacement for the GM original.

305U shows a p/n of 1254176 (2 bbl code ON). No length I can find. Superseded to 25509266 then to 25500209. Aftermarket ATP Y-211, or Pioneer CA-8474 Apparently it fits V6 as well?

Best I can do for now.

I appreciate the info. To be honest I didnt even think of a difference in 2 to 4bbl. I need the cable for the crate motor in my wagon with a Holley 4bbl. I'll see if the local auto parts can get the part number you listed for the 23.2 (or 23.5)

I just looked on rockauto for a 1986 Monte. According to their page the 23.5 part number is CA 8519. The CA 8475 is 24.25 long. Did you misread that info or is their catalog incorrect ?
The ATP Y 205 cable looks totally wrong. The odd thing is they also have the part number ATP Y 266 being the same part. SMH

I don't know the lengths of the aftermarket parts. The 1254180 is 23.2" long. That's all I know. If the aftermarket isn't the same length, I can't help that. It's the same for Olds aftermarket cables. The aftermarkets are a little different length than originals.

See if any of those guys on MCSS forum is doing an LS swap and see if you can get their original cable from them (if they didn't destroy it taking it out).

I cold get one from the local junk yard but at this point Im looking for new. The crazy thing is I just went on Pioneers website and they list both part numbers. The 8475 and the 8519. Same specs for both including the lengths. 23.23". Looks like I have to give them a quick call before I order one.

So, after a call to Pioneer Im still pretty much in the same place. LOL
The tech support guy said both part numbers are the same length. He said one has a square end at the carb and the other has a round end but are interchangable, When he asked me the year, make and model of the car and motor size he looked up the factory cable and its 30" long. Guess I have to run to the auto parts to see what they have.
