There is an additional 2 wire plug on the cars with the 1.5 DIN radio.
1 wire is orange for the constant 12 volt
The other is a brown wire for the dimmer. My question is where this wire terminates. Does this go to the head light switch and if so, is the switch different to accommodate this?

It does go to the switch & in factory wired cars it'll be crimped in the same terminal as the brown wire in the switch plug.

Is the switch different? I see listings of a 7 terminal and 8 terminal switch.
You can use the switch you have, just need to tap or splice into that brown wire (circuit 9-Tail, License, Park & Side Marker Lamp Feed) to tie that into the circuit itself. From my wire diagrams I'm only seeing the 7 wire terminal switch being used anyways.

I forgot that GM used an add on jumper harness on the 80's fullsize trucks with the 87 and earlier digital ETR and later 1.5 DIN radios. It makes it plug and play :)
I was able to stop at a local yard today and pulled a nice one from an 89 fullsize Blazer. Also found and 87 Monte Carlo and grabbed the rear support bracket for the stereo.
