I have an 84 Regal Limited 3.8. New alternator, battery and all the belts tight. All of my dummy lights work in the dash. my questions is with the key on should I have power to this red wire and is this a fuse able link? Any help is appreciated.
So that little black cylinder is a fuse able link? That should be constant power off the battery. Key on doesn't matter it'll have 12v unless the link is blown.
Ok, I didn’t realize it sent power to the car. I thought it was to excite the alternator but that’s what that plug on the side of the alternator is for. I realized that when I unplugged it and my dummy light went off.Yup. Put a meter on the eyelet there and the other lead on the negative of the battery with it all hooked up see if you have voltage.
Right, and where does that one with the fuse able link go?That is the heavy gauge wire that should run back to the battery to charge it.
Gm G-body electrical troubleshooting supplement says this:That is part of circuit number 2 if you take the wire harness apart it will have a crimp and solder splice with a 12Ga wire going to the Blower motor relay, another going to the firewall connector to inside the car and another going to the battery cable on the starter and that one to the threaded post on the back of the alternator.
Circuit number 2 has another fuseable link that goes from the battery cable at the starter to the firewall connector.
