If that alternator turns out to be bad I'd try to find a local guy who rebuilds alternators instead of buying one from a parts store.

I have had one of those fusible links blow to the alternator. I used a 4 gauge battery cable from the battery to the alternator power post to make sure I had a reliable voltage source. Maybe do a resistance test on the idiot light circuit as that circuit is what makes the alternator charge. As said the part store alternators are hit and miss. My current 12si 94 amp Wilson reman alternator needs revved up to charge. Also most of the high amp chrome alternators don't last, from personal experience. The aftermarket used the 10si case instead of the 12si case which can handle 100+ amps much easier due to a better fan and much more open back.
