Well I have yet to bring my cutlass to the strip. I planned on it this year. There is a local track in NJ called Island Dragway. Its in Great Meadow, NJ and I can be there in 30min driving the backroads. I drive by the area everyday to work its actually no far out of my way to and from work. On fridays after work I would see a whole bunch of nice muscle car, drags cars on trailers in there area. Down the road from there, there is a nice hotdog place called Hotdog Johnnys. I would always see trailers and cars in there as well. I just never had the chance to go. I am sad to see them close the doors for good. It sounds like they had trouble with the IRS and septic issues which brought on the EPA.

I wish I was rich and I would go around buying up these old Historic tracks and keep them running. Now I have to drive 2+hours to the next closest track. Which I really don't feel like doing.

I live about a 2 miles from that track and spent many a weekend there. It is a shame that it closed but I knew the owners were having financial issues with back taxes. From the word in town the zoning on the property has changed. So if she were to `sell the track it can no longer be a drag track. So time will tell.

The back taxes can be paid but the change in zoning....thats not good. A co-worker of mine would go up there from time to time and said it was a decent track.

Re: Another Historic Drag Strip Closed

We are about to lose Firebird raceway south of Phoenix. It sits on Tribal land and they won't renew the lease.
Phoenix raceway park the other strip here just reopened after battling the County over property tax issues for two years.
These facilities seem to be disappearing all over the country because of people building homes closer and closer to the tracks. It's really kinda sad.

A few buddys and I were going to go out there from Scranton this summer guess we need to make different plans. We'll prob go to New Media. My father took me there as a kid and we'd stop at Hotdog Johnny's down the road. Very sad to see it gone.

At least you found out now before you make the trip down there. The trip to Hotdog Johnnys would still be worth the trip. I stop there frequently on my way home from work. The concept sounds weird but a deep fried hotdog sure is good.....I never heard of that New Media. I just looked them up and they are alot closer then the other tracks.

Glade to see it survive. We as car people needd these old time tracks to survive.
