Hi. guys, this is my first post on the forum. I apologize if I've posted it in the wrong place. I have an 88 Monte Carlo SS, that I just bought a fairly expensive car cover for and I want to put the antenna hole in the car cover in the right spot. Any suggestions? Also, the antenna is not a power antenna, but will the mast screw out of the flange nut that sits on top of the fender? Thanks in advance.

Don't cut your cover. That defeats the purpose. Just unscrew the mast.

Thanks for your advice, will the mast unscrew from the flange nut on top of the fender or do I need to take the flange nut off completely in order to get the mast off?

Agree with the taking off the mast. It simply unscrews from the fender nut.

Side question- IIRC, at some point, I could have sworn that U75- Power Antenna, was an available option for the Monte Carlo SS. Yet, best to my recollection, I've never seen a Monte SS with a power antenna. I might have, just don't remember. It seems every single one of them had a manual antenna. WTF?

Never mind. I went and looked at the Monte Carlo SS ordering information for 86-88. Interestingly, U75 was not available as an option for Monte SS. Wow, also, no CF5, sunroof/astroroof option, either. Just T-tops or hard top for Monte SS. Strange.

I have an 88 SS also and from the day I purchased a car cover for it I always removed the mast. I've had a high end cover for the car and a inexpensive Summit brand cover for it now and with the mast removed the covers never really touch the stub end of the mast.

just to add.... unscrew the mast and drop it in the fresh air inlet tray at the base of the windshield. Neoprene carb nipple over the threads and you don't even notice that it's missing. I don't think I put mine back on in over 5 years now
