I am testing the water here. I know it has been discussed before. Would any one be interested in a 3800 series 2 build and put in a g body. Winter is coming and I have been thinking about starting putting together a 3800 for my car. I have a 2000 none drive by wire engine out of a buick with only 20000 miles on it. I have all the parts from a 96 Comaro to make the front wheel drive engine into a rear wheel drive engine. I also have a almost new 4l60e transmission, electric fans and a lot of extra parts. I have researched this for about a year now, so I have about every thing figured out how to make it work. My plan is to use the stock engine and put a turbo cam in it. Going to run it na for a while till I can round all parts to put a turbo on it. My goal is 400-500 horsepower, be reliable, get good mpg, ac, and drive any were. All from a six banger! What do guy's think?

Dare to be different. I've also wondered whether a late-model Camaro V6 in front of a T-5 would be a good compromise.

I think a t-5 would work awesome. It would let the turbo spool when you wanted it to! I got the 4l60e with the truck load of Comaro parts for 500 bucks. Trany was new right before engine blew up. Has maybe 2000 miles on it. I have the paperwork. When I shuck the trany I might switch to a t5.

I say go for it! My buddy had a 98 Grand Prix GTP that we toyed around with. I love those engines. They're tough and have a decent amount of torque for a V6. We sure had fun with the supercharged version. I bet a turbocharged one would be fun too. You should have plenty of room under the hood which will help with turbo piping.

What kind of G body are you planning on putting this in?

Echoing what the others have said, these are great motors. Had an old beater 95 Regal with one that my buddies and I used to go mudding in and the the thing ran just fine even after melting the coolant overflow tank.

Would be a pretty rad and different build. Might be a little pricey to hit your power goals but it should still be pretty quick.

Your Monte is beautiful. I read part of your thread about slow cars and I know how you feel. My Monte isn't gonna win any races either but I still love it! A turbo 3800 with a stick shift would make your car fast and unique.

Better yet, how about using the factory supercharger then add a turbo on :)
