Dragged the 87 out of the shop today and washed off all the dust and crap off it after bringing it back to life. Nice day, near 60 degrees. When I bring it outside and let it sit in the sun, I take careful measures to tape off the tail light rockets and the nose rocket to help prevent it from fading in the sun. Am I the only one that retarded or has anyone else done this? It's just that I don't want them to fade out and die before their time. Noticed tiny little road rash chip in the paint, and other minor scarring. I guess I shouldn't be so anal over a 32 year-old car. Took her down the road and back and blew the cobs out of her. Seems to be doing ok. If you missed my other posting about it, after my battery died I got a new one, fired her up and revved it in the shop and blew little black sooty chunkies everywhere. After analyzing them, there's a tad bit of rust chips and dry soot/carbon bits, but no ceramic (cat) pieces that I can tell. It drove down the road fine and opened up the 4 barrels a bit and all went as expected, so I think I'll be ok.
Rolled up to 622,627 miles! Or, maybe not so much.
My new AGM battery. It's got a flat and all black top on it. I'm going to modify it a little and make it look like a 601 Delco that was optional HD battery.
