I've debated a 4.0 Jeep I6 for my malibu, but can't justify the swap yet. The Olds 350 I put in it runs too well to disturb.
Yeah. Not many people choose a 305... why did you? Especially with all the CC stuff. With the Buick it is literally 100% drop in from a 231. Same mounts, plugs and wires, sensors and senders, brackets, timing cover and water pump, everything. If your car is in good enough shape you wont even need to go to the parts store for anything more than fluids. Plus I wanted a Buick powered Buick. In my mind, it's like putting a 350 chevy in a 1970 Buick Skylark. just seems wrong. I'm a purist I suppose. Is yours a stock 305 or did you pump it up a little?
Engine masters got 600hp out of one with nitrous.....My state still had emission testing for obd1 cars at the time, plus I got the whole motor plus the 2004r for $250. A Buick 350 would be too old to be legal. I rather like the ccc, its a good system when you have it working right. You can see my mods in my sig, mainly cam and headers. You can get up to 300 hp out of a 305 with some work.
My vote would be for a 12 valve 6bt Cummins with the NV5600 6 speed. Use a 90s P7100 injection pump and a decent compound turbo setup. To save room you could do away with the intercooler and use some type of alternative injection like water/meth, etc...
I have been having dirty thoughts about that swap for awhile....
Years ago, there was a member of this site with a supercharged 3800 and 4l60e in a cutlass. On turbobuick.com there are 2-3 regal/GNs that are turbo 3800 series 2 powered. On a related note, wasn't there a member on this site talking about swapping a supercharged 3800 V6 with a 5 speed into a G body?
I have an 83 Regal with a 455. Yes 455 meaning Buick out of a 73 Riv with a 400 bolted up to it, but may change it for the 200r4 ODIt seems g bodies are flooded with 3 major styles of swaps and that's about it. Sbc, bbc and ls swaps. Hell mine is getting a turbo ls so not trash talking, it just starts to get mundane. Anybody have anything really unique they've seen around or better yet done?
I'm thinking after the cutlass is done a possible 2jz or maybe a stroked rb series. If anything it would be worth it just to p!$$ off the old timers and serious American muscle lovers(admittedly I hold a lifetime members card that is sure to be revoked )
That actually seems fitting especially if it ever gets you used as a parts hauler like my wagon did.I had a 6.5 turbo diesel out of a Chevy 1 ton truck in my 79 Malibu wagon. It actually bolted in on solid mounts.
