Anyone ever have a temp gauge read really high?

I wondered why my big A body rad in my G body could not cool my 260 in my 88. For one I didn't turn the rad cap on, why not, more coolant on the ground, sure why not. I turned on the fans at 230, down to 215 with the fans on when I noticed the rad cap. Shoot my temp gun at the sender and thermostat housing, nothing above 170 WTF? It read 10 degrees high, now 45 high, ridiculous! Anyone see cheap gauges like this Sunpro be so far off?

if your temp got up to the 230 degree temp to turn on the fans I'd be suspecting your temp gun

No manual control on the fans. Buying a new temperature gauge. Shows 70 degrees in my house, unless it off at higher temps.

gottcha....Sunpro is a low quality so I would thank it for not telling you that you have normal temps when you are actually overheating....I be getting a better quality gauge and for oil and temp I like mechanical gauges.

It seems Equus is the only locally available gauges, they work OK in the 70S, good enough for the 88. The temp gauge opened bang on with the thermostat and fluctuated with the thermostat opening and closing in the 70S.

Put the sender in a pot of boiling water. It should read 212. That is pretty high and accurate.
