I'm trying to figure out if an 83 turbo Regal torque converter has more stall than an 86 Monte SS torque converter. It seems like I read years ago that the 86 and 87 Turbo Buicks had a bit more stall than the average 2004R. I'm wondering if the 83's had any more stall as well.

I thought the D5 converter on the SS has a 1900-2000 stall speed, same converter is used in the Turbo Regal's, might stall higher in them, can vary slightly depending on the car/engine it's used in.

The D5 is supposed to be a 2400 rpm rated stall. Of course the 305 and 307 were pretty lame. Also heard it stalls at 2050 rpm behind the 307 HO.

The D5 stall speed can vary on the turbo Buicks depending on whether it is flashed or if it is held on the brake and allowing the turbo to spool up. It can go way higher than 2400 when the turbo spools.
