astro steering shaft and steering pump noise

I installed an astro steering shaft today and the steering is so much tighter. I have a question
about the steering pump, it makes noise now. When I make a turn, I can hear noise from the steering
pump. It sounds like air rushing in though the steering column when I turn left or right.
I open the hood with the car running and turned the steering shaft by hand. I heard
the same noise coming from the steering pump.
Do you think maybe the steering pump is going. I never had this problem, until
I installed the astro steering shaft today.

change the power steering fluid and make sure the system is bled...
