Hello to everyone. I have a problem with my automatic shifter hanging up in D, it is one you push down to go into D, pull up coming out of D and this is where it hangs up. Anyway if I don't resolve the problem I plan to replace with I think a B & M model, something I have never done. I would like to find one with matching mounting screw holes. Any suggestions appreciated or any sites that may give me detailed info of the shifters. Thanks for any help. Gman

And your current shifter is...….????

Need more data.

Small deal here, you're in the manual transmission zone. Not a big deal, but somewhat confusing.

Don't worry about the forum area. Everyone makes mistakes.

Sounds like you may have one of those V-matic deals, where you push down in Neutral and pull back to make it a ratchet shifter? Is that it?

If so, it could be a cable adjustment. Personally, I never did like those shifters, but some people think they're cool.

A pic of the shifter would help a little

Thanks. I was able to get a look at the transmission and the shift cable looks to be new, also looked to be run correctly. I am old school, do not have smart phone and having problem loading pics to my computer. I have the boot off and getting a better look at shifter. It is one you push down to go out of R to N and have to pull up when going back to P. The guy I bought it from told me it was something I would get used to. Maybe it is just me. Anyway very few people would figure out how to drive her. Thanks for the advice. Gman

Sounds kinda like a B&M Quicksilver shifter that I had in my 84 El Camino. It was a fussy piece! I sold the car last year though

Here are a few pictures. I lubed it as you can see, seems to shift better but I still think I want to change it out. Would like to find one with same mounting holes. Thanks everyone for your advice. I will try to find the right forum. Good luck to all on your projects. Thanks again. Gman
