Like everything on Last Week Tonight, the video is complete BS.
People LIKE daylight saving. People F'ing hate NORMAL time.
Noon is F'ing morning, not the "middle of the day". The middle of the day is like 2:00 PM.
If i go to bed at between 10 and 11 PM (like 80% of people in the people in the US), how can noon be the middle of my day? Do we all wake up between 1AM and 2AM every morning?

A day is 24 hours. 12:00pm is the halfway point. Glad I could clear that up for you. The middle of DAYLIGHT, varies from day to day and season to season.
last time i checked 12:00 pm is not the middle of daylight.when you send the clocks foward it is not the center of daylight. so that theary does not work. most normal people love daylightsaving cause they gain an hour of sleep for one night and dont live outdoors anymore. come spring they will complain of the sleep lost.and still not live outdoors. in this day and age for the general population daylight savings offer zero benefit. most countries and a small part of ours dont practice it and have not for quite some time. should just shift to the rest of the world and be done.
never said noon was the center of the dayLiGHT. I said in a 24 hour day, 12pm is the halfway point. Which it is. The amount and duration of dayLIGHT varies from day to day and season to season as the earth revolves around the sun and spins on it's axis.
Ever heard of a sun dial? Noon is supposed to be the center of daylight. Regardless of the season, if the sun is up a sundial will tell you the time. Take a trip to Greenwich England. They have a sundial there that accurate to about 10 minutes even after a couple hundred years of plate tectonics.
Time was invented before cars, shopping, sports and the modern lifestyle. People don't need 12 hours sleep, but the earth is dark an average of 12 hours/day, so we have to spend a significant amount of our lives (about 30% of our awake lives) awake, but in the dark...which sucks, unless you are a burglar.
