Car would not move this afternoon. Transmission would not come out of park. I just reinstalled the trans after a full overhaul. It is full of fluid and I ran it twice this past Saturday with no issues. I have a B&M Megashifter installed. I reinstalled everything as it was before, same bend in the cable, etc. I have disconnected it at the transmission end and gently tugged on that end, figuring if the cable is snapped it would just come out, it seems to still be connected in there as the cable did not slip out.

Might it simply be a stuck cable in need of some lubrication?

As always any help/tips/general words of encouragement are appreciated.

I personally love them and I like how it looks and how it works, mine has been in my car for over twenty years and the only issue I ever had was after a couple years a section of casing broke on the original cable and I replaced it and upgraded to B & M's heavy duty version and haven't had a problem since.

Same here - I like the look and the function. Installed mine years ago, ran it ever since with zero issues, until now. Now, there is a heavy duty version of the cable? I would have thought the tech from B&M (Holley) I spoke to this afternoon trying to troubleshoot this issue would have mentioned that.

I had a Megashifter in my 78 Bandit Trans Am. Never had any issues with it whatsoever, and I beat the tar outa that car.. The only possible help I might offer is that I Installed one in a Cutlass way back in the day, and it gave me fits until I got the cable "just right". It was picky.

I caught a B&M Hammer Shifter online, new in the box for $100. One of them... projects, Ill get to eventually.

Not to hijack the thread, but I don't know how long my console is going to last. The plastic is so brittle, if I lean on it (say, to unlock the passenger door) it cracks... and has a ton of cracks in it, even some pieces missing I had never noticed before, and after looking... the console really isn't in good shape at all. Ive heard Impala Consoles are a nice option... someone here had fit one in their G-Body, and it actually looked pretty good. But, I digress...

Update. after a few minutes of unbolting the trans side and the shifter side, messing with the swivel, I noticed that the wire just wanted to slide out. Which it did. The cable broke just below the piece with the eye hook that connects to the shifter. Bummer. When I removed the trans I just kinda moved the cable out of the way. It may have gotten tweaked. Who knows. However, my luck has not yet run out; no sooner did I snap the attached pic did my friend call, who just changed his shifter out this evening and installed the new cable that came with the shifter, heard my tale of woe, and said I could have the old. The exact cable I need. On my way to the corner store to grab a lottery ticket...

I may try the straw + tape + oil + time = lube method shown in the video in a previous post, given it is a used cable and for fun.
