I was wondering if anyone made stock looking gauges that are backlit or is my only option to use brighter bulbs for the 83-88 Monte Carlo SS?. The ones for the factory are very dim and I want to keep the factory look.

If you can find the GE Nighthawk or the Sylvania Silverstar 194 bulb that will brighten up your gauges

I am looking at the vendor NVU. Anyone use them to make custom gauges?

How bad is the LED brightness? On these cars I never turned it down due to it being so dim.

I have found with led dash lights you can find a brightness you like by trying different designs of the same bulb even though you might not be able to adjust it with a switch.
In my Monte with Autometer gauges and my Regal with stock dash I used the same style led bulb 5 SMD 194 and then used a different style that was not as bright for my trio gauges in my Regal

I used blacklight LEDs. Something different to try. Illuminates all orange with neon glow.
