Ok so they fit................... but who has actually done it.

How far off are the bracket points?

Just need a new belt or other mods are needed?

Thanks

Actually the bolt hole locations are in the exact same spots. The only reason accessory brackets are different for the BBO is deck height. All your accessories will move right over. The other issue is Chamber size, same as what you have and the Edelbrock/Procomp aluminum heads can't run a mechanical fuel pump due to over hang on the SBO. Slight clearance is needed on the BBO for most but the nice RobMc can't be used either. You would need to sell your Performer to Chuck Cole, he was having trouble getting one on here or new and buy a RPM intake. It has meat above the ports and can be opened to the BBO port size. I would also make sure you run 9+ to 1. The J heads are basically #8 SBO heads with a bigger intake valve and port. Similar numbers stock compared to your heads. The Procomps can be bought for $300 each or less bare. I am tempted to go Procomp's on my 403 as well. I have never done it but as has been mentioned Olds did it factory with two different 400 ci motors. But neither were high 7 to 1 motors, lowest was 9 to 1.

If your using stock BB heads they need to be milled for compression plus head bolts holes need to be enlarged depending on what year block your using. Use the thinnest head gasket you can find, Edelbrock 7111 intake is what you need. As olds307and 403 had posted your accessories will move right over. I have been using this set up on one of my sb 350 with D heads since the late 80's, you wont be disappointed.

With stock BB olds heads you don't have an issue with the fuel pump, the aftermarket aluminum heads is were you run into the problem. They tend to stick out a little further near the fuel pump. I have seen that area notched a bit to fit a fuel pump.

Actually you can thank Pontiac for the worst Olds heads. Not sure if it was because Pontiac V8's were slowly disappearing or because Olds were selling so many cars and the plants were having trouble keeping up. Pontiac some how made Olds, OK for the time heads even worse. All the later "A" heads are Pontiac's handiwork. They are all terrible, the 4A might actually be the best of the bunch believe it or not. Look for the PMD cast into the head. You will have a few hours on the exhaust ports for sure. Honestly, maybe strip them down and maybe get the shop to use a bowl hog cutter first. You don't have to worry about the exhaust seat with grinder, you are going from a 1.5" to a 1.625" valve. On the intake, probably the cutter, a blend into the port from the bowl hog, tear drop the guide and 2.07" intake valve should be enough for decent flow. The intake ports actually look decent, exhaust ports, bloody bad. Good luck.

These 4A's are made by Olds no PMD they have the CFC or something like that on them

I purposely looks for the PMD because I know those are super junk
