Looking at a holley 750 street hp pn 0-82751sa wanting opinions on what everybody thinks is best for a 355 w/ comp magnum cam 501 lift 244 duration. running a 700r4 w/ 3000 stall and 373 rear. I know that some will say the 750 is to big for this motor but I plan on building a 427 small block with AFR heads in the future so I dont want to have to buy another carb in future. Also does anyone know what the sa in the Holley part number is? They list the same part number without the SA its $90 more.

It looks like the only difference is the more expensive one is anodized silver versus the tumbled polished less expensive one.

I also feel if the 427 with AFR heads is going to have a roller cam then a 750 Holley should work fine but is big for your 355.

What about jetting down the 750? Or should I just go with the 650? Other brand besides Holley?

750 on a 350 is too much regardless what you do it it. Quadrajet would be the best bet. Air Valves over the secondaries only give the engine what it needs. Set it once, and never have to touch it again. Everyday Performance, Quadrajet Power, SMI, etc have good prices on brand new rebuilt units, not them shitty hit or miss parts store carbs. If not, 650 vac sec holley would be good. If you dont care about mileage get a 650 DP.

Back when I first swapped in the 355 SBC into my Cutlass my buddy kept ranting about I needed an 850! I told him it was too big, did my research and ended up with a 650 Speed Demon carb with vacuum secondaries. That carb was AWESOME! Once it was dialed in I never had issues with it other than the occasional sluggish hot start.
My goofy friend ended up with a 850 Demon for his 355, and it wouldn't run for crap due to it being too big a carb. After serious jetting and tweaks, he basically ended up with a 650!!! I bug his *ss about it to this day!!!

If I were to ever go carb again (highly unlikely since I've been in the EFI world for 10+ years now) I would buy another Demon carb in a heartbeat.

I always run qjets so I don't know but it seems like you got a pretty hefty cam and your car is built to rev so I would think 750 would be just fine.

I would stay away from the Holley brand and buy one of the other Holley style carbs.

Holleys quality is garbage

My question is what are you using the car for and why do you want an HP carb.

You have to answer this question before any carb decision can be made. For example, if you're chasing a number with your 350, cay 500HP, then the 750 will work, but if you're looking for a driver that won't ever see more than 5500 rpm's, then it's somewhat oversized, but will work.

Regarding the future 427 with AFR heads, a build of this nature that is described as you have described it identifies a build in the 500-600HP range and perhaps higher. You're describing an $8-10K long block. About the only items that would be re-usable from your 350 build to the 427 might the timing cover lol. The 427 build will need an 850 to see it's maximum potential.

Of course this is my opinion, and FWIW, I wouldn't consider building a 427 SBC with any thought of a carb. At bare minimum I would be looking at a throttle body EFI - something along the lines of a Holley Sniper - again minimum.
