Hello everyone. I was wondering what brand of weather stripping is the best for the lower doors? Soft seal-etc? Its for my 81 Malibu. Any advise would be appreciated. Thx Mike.

I've used soft seal and metro in the past i couldn't tell the difference from one to the other.i've always struggled with the gluing portions of the weatherstriping but the snap in portions always went well for me.

i was highly disappointed in soff seal. the molded portion on top rear of door from factory was a molded piece of hard plastic inside rubber. soff seal does not have this in their seal. I dont know if seals I had were old but didnt seem dried out. at that corner the seal just stretched out and was very poor fitment.

Surprise AZ.
I used Steel Rubber Products seals on my El Camino. The only issue I had was the doors were harder to get closed for a few weeks, until they settle in. https://www.steelerubber.com/

Soffseal for wagons are terrible. I used soffseal for my coupe roofrails about 12 years ago, were fine.

For fitment I prefer Metro over Soffseal but I have heard good things about Steel Rubber Products but never used them.
As far as glue I use 3M black super weatherstripping adhesive but I use my Dremel with a sanding band and rough up both the door and the rubber seal where the adhesive will be touching this seems to help the adhesive get a better grab on the seal over the factory smooth surface.

Thx guys. I appreciate everyones input. Ive used soft seal on my 79 malibu. The roof strips fit fine. But the door weatherstrip ends were terrible n actually tore on the top n seperated from the hold down screw. Being my 81 will be back from paint this wed,i need new door strips. I just wanted to see what my options are. I will not use softseal door strips again thats for sure.

I have Metro t-top seals, the first set were not properly formed at the top of the A pillar but with a few pictures to show them Metro send a new set and didn't ask for the old ones back. That issue was resolved quickly and with no hassle so Metro has great customer service.

I bought a set of soffseal ones for my regal and they fit so poorly I ended up going to the junkyard and finding a set in decent shape and using them. My window sweeps are Repops brand and they fit really nice.

None of the aftermarket lower door seals are molded correctly like the discontinued GM seals.
