I have a 229 v6 car so basically small block Chevy accessories. What is a good swap for the power steering pump? Can I use the small block pump in big block brackets? Or do I get a say 70 chevelle big block pump and brackets and then have custom hoses to go from the older pump to the 80 Malibu steering box?

What kind of set-up do you want: 'Old School' v-belt or Serpentine?

KWIK Perf make adapter brackets that allow using GM's tried & true +readily available sbc serpentine set-up used from 88-95 on big-blocks. There was a big-block serpentine set-up through GM on the trucks but it's not hood friendly for transplanting into cars & it was made from steel vs the sbc's aluminum bracketry. I used the KWIK kit along w/accessories & brackets I pulled off of a 4.3l S10 Blazer on the 454 in my dually. I had to get a different crank pulley but everything else worked. When I need parts, I usually as for stuff that would have been found under the hood of a '94 C1500 w/a 305/350.

Old school v-belt would be any pre-78 Chevy big block car & many trucks through early '80's.

Thanks. I’m trying to stick with the v-belts since the motor is coming out of a 70 chevelle I have.

Passenger BBC brackets would be the way to go if the donor has some with it. Not sure if the 229's p/s pump will work as is since the hose fittings (if '80 up) & hard line routing will be differernt than the BBC set up.

Big block long water pump has the driver side power steering pump with the alternator on the passenger side. It’s the same orientation as the small block long water pump.

I have had a BBC in my Monte since the early 90's so when I first installed it I used a pump and brackets off a BBC car and still have that set up even though the pump has been replaced.

So you went with the big block pump too. I guess you had to have hoses made?

Yes, I had the high pressure hose made at a local hydraulic hose shop, they crimped one end on and I brought it home and marked how I wanted it clocked for other end and had them finish it.

If by some chance you know what fittings you put in the box side that would be great. I would just get some chevelle lines and change the steering box end.

I think I brought them a hose from my Monte's SBC and one from the original car I got the pump from and had them match it up.
