We won the first race of the season and this is a nice write up on the race...it was a hard fought race but we came away with not too much damage so that makes my job easier, here's a bit of it.....😀

Sweet... Congratulations!

Little late for the season to start isn't it? I think the local tracks started up around here well over a month ago.

Thanks, the local tracks all open last weekend or the one before. The weather is unpredictable and the tracks don't like handing out rain vouchers for the next race.

I know you probably wouldn't go into specifics... But what kind of specs are on the engine in that thing? Got a link to the rule book just because I'm curious?

I'm still planning on building a car to run one of these days, but not anything that high of a level.

If you plan on building a car there are lots of cars to choose from if you buy instead of build. Sponsor money is tight so many teams are getting out of the sport. For the engine we run there are no secrets, we run a sealed 604 crate. With the sealed engine there is no engine tear down for inspection and no weight penalties. Here's a link to the rules, NSCA Rules

Oh that's pretty cool... I like the idea of those crate engine classes a lot, keep costs down and competitiveness up through ingenuity, chassis setup, and driver skill... Not may the man with the most money win. Although, I'm sure having a lot of dough doesn't ever hurt.

I was thinking about starting with a street stock, but they have a 602/604 crate "sportsman" modified class that runs at the two nearest tracks to me... And for the prices of used chassis, combined with the crate engines, it seems almost like it would only cost a little bit more to get into a much better handling, far more adjustable, and way safer chassis... Along with it being quite a bit faster. Do you have an opinion, just for a guy that has never raced before... Which class would be better to cut his teeth and learn the ropes? This would be on dirt not asphalt though, I don't know what your experience with that is.

Thanks for the link to the rulebook I'm reading it over right now.

The car we have is a sportsman and with the 604 that had just a few races on it the car cost us about 7,500 as it sat for our first race with it last year.....there are deals out there if your willing to do some work and you are right about getting more of a car for your money in a sportsman class.
