Spectra Premium vs Dorman?
I need to replace my sender, so I ordered a new SMP sender, straps and insulators from Dixie
The tank was replaced with an unknown aftermarket item back in the early 90's
Looking inside the tank, it's pretty clean, but the outsides got a little surface rust, not the end of the world
But it ALWAYS kicks back at you when trying to fill, BADLY
Now I've been told certain aftermarket brands at certain times did that
I just put a new Canister on, and blew out the lines at the canister where now I can feel air coming out from the filler neck
I don't want to drop this tank twice, it's kind of old, but I want the problem solved once and for all

Spectra Premium vs Dorman?
Liland Global is out of stock everywhere
What is everyone buying?
What's your experience with replacement tanks?
It's for a stock Q-Jet 305 in my '83 Grand Prix, so no worries about EFI or Baffles
Is there a plastic tank that'd fit?
That would last nearly forever

I have a Spectra Premium in my 86' Regal with their straps, fit was fine and it fills like a normal car but I did add a vent to the tank.

I have the Spectre too. Make sure you have a good vent (like the one above) with any of these aftermarket tanks or you will be burping fuel when at the gas pump.

Was there ever a smoking gun as to why some of the aftermarket tanks burped badly? Was it because the fill tube extended too deep or....???

You mean I've gotta physically drill into the tank to install a vent?

Or can I tee into the hose that goes up to the canister?

Edit. If I want to be a cheap b*st*rd (and get it done this weekend) what are the odds the vent would fit on the sender itself?

That picture isn't great for scale, roughly spark plug sized?

The vent is not very big, spark plug sized maybe you just add a hose to your vent tube coming off the tank if you are not running a charcoal canister.

Maybe I'll order one to keep on hand
Thing is, I spent the money to re-do the canister and the lines, and I now know that it's venting and purging as designed
Maybe I'll try it stock first, wonder if a clogged vent line and ruined canister were the problem the whole time
I went down the filler neck with my boroscope camera, it looks damm near brand new
Once the registration comes back, I'll take it down to the station and see how it fills before condemning it

I have he Spectra tank and have no issues

They claim to have "fixed" the issue.

I think the only "problem" was/is the speed of the modern pumps

Compare the speed of an 78-88 gas pump to a modern day pump

Old tanks are not designed for the faster flow,

Lots of older cars have the splash back issues because of it
