I was wondering. Any of you guys who have done work on your own transmissions. What have you used for bushing drivers...installation and removal? What kit, or kits do you recommend?
I've noticed various kits out there, but wondered if the sizes were applicable with the bushings in the trans.
I also notice the wide differential in prices. I don't want to spend a whole lot on a kit, mainly because it probably won't get used that much.

I have a HF kit that has covered most of my needs. Now, I haven't done any auto trans work, but I imagine that the handle would be too short. If the kit doesn't have what I need, a piece of pipe with the kit usually works well.

I have a generic race/bushing/seal Lisle kit. It is really important to use the thermal properties of things to your advantage - a thou can make a huge difference on how well something goes together (or doesn't).

Yeah, I saw the HF kit. I'll have to see what sizes are included. I'm thinking that kits is mostly for wheel bearing and axle races. You did bring out a good point about the handle length. Some of the other kits I saw had three different length (and width) handles. The smaller/ narrower handle went with the smaller drivers...larger handle with the larger drivers, etc.

Thanks Mike.
That's a good point. I like most of the Lisle tools. I'll see what they have to offer.
Some companies offer a kit to do specifically transmission bushings, but for what they cost, I can put that towards the overhaul kit, billet servo, etc. I'd like to find a happy medium.

The TH350 bushing driver is pretty much a generic set, the TH400 kit has some weirdo slugs which make things happen much easier.....I bought mine used from Army surplus years ago, you might try there, I think they were OTC branded....

Thanks man, I appreciate the suggestion. I was actually considering the OTC brand driver set.
However, I never would have thought of Army surplus tools. Something to think about.

Did you actually go to a local surplus shop, or was it an online source?
