I am new here, and I just bought a 1985 Monte Carlo SS. I'd eventually like to put a bigger cam in it, if I don't swap the 305 out. Any suggestions for the cam? I'd also like to lower it, any suggestions for how much and what kit? Thanks.

The Crane Cams Emission Max series is pretty good. There is the 2030, 2040, and 2050 cams to choose from. I am running the 2040 myself. Also with a cam change, upgrade the timing chain set to a true double roller. Stock chains start stretching in as little as 30K miles.

I'm thinking Edelbrock does/did have a grind that is an upgrade for the L69 in your SS. What is your emissions requirements in your area? That could be what guides you in your cam choice.

Welcome to the site, but I'm just going to be honest: don't waste your money on a cam for a 305. You can buy a running 350 nowadays for probably not much more than what that cam will cost.
