I used to have a 73' Grand Am and I still like this body style from that era but what a waste to see so many Can Am's just sitting there.

I'm conflicted. One the one hand, the did go to ruin. On the other, they were more likely to have been made into Toyotas 30 years ago had the current 'collector' not gathered them himself.

Is this someone's private hoard? If so, I guess you can do whatever you want, if they're yours. I find it kind of sad though. The Can Am was a 1 year only, low production car. With all of the Can Ams that I see in that photo, you would think that at least 1 or 2 of them could be saved and fixed up.

They are posted on FB, my guess is these are newly acquired by the seller since they are now parting them out and selling complete cars.
I think you could have made quite a few complete Can Ams out of these had they been not just been sitting there for decades.

Those mid 70's cars are a tough one for value. The Colinaide cars were made during a terrible time. Being the one year, special Can Am does make them actually valuable to a certain extent. We had our 75 Cutlass 4 door, nicknamed the beast, overall decent and gave me the respect for the SB Rocket 350, took a heck of a beating. I bought a 76 2 door Cutlass for $50, 20 years ago. I still see nice 2 door Cutlass take forever to sell at a couple of grand. They are big, not my cup of tea for styling and way underpowered. GM cars were way better than Ford or Dodge in that era, but those were plain awful. My bet is a relative died and this person inherited the hoard. I don't think a lot of parts are made for the Colinaide cars, due to their value and not being popular. A reproduction bumper wasn't available for my 76 and they all rotted out. That and getting a title made me not fix up that mint interior car, $50 car. Hopefully a Can Am person sees this and saves it.

Out where I grew up there was a small RV on the street built out of a 73-77 cutlass. Had the front clip and front doors, then the rear of it was a camper with the top shelf hanging over the front seat area.

I'm guessing it was built out of a wagon chassis but I never saw another one. Looked professionally built though.

What a shame. I see a Trans Am back there by the yellow container too. We used to have a 1976 LeMans, Pontiac 350 2 barrel, that was one of the best cars ever. I hated to see it go. I could not get parts for it and here are all these similar cars rotting away.

Thanks for your response 565bbchevy. I checked the FB ad. Looks like some of them may be saved, and parts from others will help people who need them. I'm seeing interest in the mid '70s colonnade cars starting to pick up, and values are starting to increase for the more unusual versions in good shape. I have several friends who own them. One friend has a '76 Chevelle Laguna, that's been in his family since new, another has a '76 Olds Cutlass 442, that's been done over pro-touring style, and yet another has a '76 Buick Regal Indy Pace Car edition, which has been restored. All cool cars IMHO.

Problem is....like most cars, cheaper to buy a nice one than build a train wreck. Nice one with rare black interior sold about a year ago for $22K locally
