I'm mounting SSII 15X7 inch wheels on my 1979 which came with 14X6 wheels. The inside edge of the rim along with the wheel weight is
hitting the tie rod end.

Can someone recommend a spacer of 1/4 inch that I can install on the front hub that will push the rim away enough to allow me to bolt the rim on.????

If you know of one that will positively fit can you kindly place a link.

Thank you. AZ

I would get a billet aluminum one that is designed with the 5 x 4.75 bolt pattern instead of a universal design, also verify you have enough wheel stud thread engagement after adding it.
thread engagement length must be equal to or greater than the diameter of the stud.

I'm very conscious of the thread length issue, I like that term thread engagement. Most of all I appreciate now knowing how to measure it.

I don't want to rely on soft flimsy cheap spacers when I have a lot of curving mountain highways in my area. Not a good place to
find the failure rate

Thanks again..a quality spacer will be money well spent.

Thanks for the link...........I had this spacer in my cart but wasn't sure, thus my reason to post this thread. I feel better
now knowing someone has applied and tried and have had positive experience with theirs. I hate spending my budget
"trying" parts out only to find they are misrepresented by vendors, or ill fitting and then having to waste good money
on return shipping charges. And my box of unusable parts is full........

Thanks again..........knowledge can be expensive but wait until you see the price of ignorance...............

I have a 1985 cutlass supreme brougham and recently changed the rims from the hubcap spokes to the SSIII seen in the picture. The problem I have is that the rims are too small and rub against the tire rod end and brake caliper. I need spacers but not sure which ones are best? I went from a 15 inch wheel to a 14x7 but the door panel calls for a 14 inch wheel.

That sounds like a drum brake wheel. I pulled the 14" steel drum brake wheels off my 70 Cutlass S and put them on my 88 Cutlass. They rubbed in the exact same spots.

I use the 7/32 universal spacers. No issues with them ever. Put a few small spots of RTV on the back of them, and hold them in place with 2 nuts snugged down. let the rtv set up and then put the wheels on. I started doing this 20 years ago with my race car when I needed 1 spacer on it and found a vibration if the spacer was not centered.
