While walking around my uncles farm I came across a pile of rear axle assemblies. I found one with code 2BZ C321 1. The code tells me it a 2.41 posi made in Buffalo on the 321st day of the year, 1st shift. What I would like to know, is there a way to find the year and model of vehicle it came from?

There is no way to tell, they never stamped any parts of a car's VIN on them. Not sure where a date code would, maybe a code casted in the pumpkin. I never found a date on my rear I'm using.

Interesting that the 8.5" was only available from 84'-87' and only came with a 3.41 gear until 87' when they also offered a 3.73 gear.

Kinda dispels that OLD myth that diesel wagon G bodies got them....since they stopped building wagons the model year prior to the introduction of 8.5 rears into the G chassis.

FWIW, I have looked under 2 diesel G wagons, both had very long in the tooth 7.5 rears
