Is it a confirmed fact that all Canadian Built Cutlass Supremes came with a Chevy SB and a non computer controlled carb?

As far as I know, it is not a confirmed fact. I'm sure that others will jump in here, if I'm wrong. I'm not sure how you would confirm it. I have seen non-442 Cutlasses here with the 307 Olds engine, but not sure if they had computer controls.
If the car was originally titled and sold in Canada, you could try contacting GM Vintage Vehicle Services, to get their information package for the car. You're looking at around $110.00CDN for the package, and I'm not sure that it will give you the exact information that you're looking for.

My goal is to swap in a SBC crate engine and from what I've been reading if it is indeed a Chevy SB and a non CCC it would make things flow a whole lot easier. Is there an online (free) resource where I can get detailed information on my car. I've tried the VIN decoders but it doesn't dive deep into the details.

The Olds Cutlass were either Buick 3.8 V6, sbc 267 or 305 powered depending on the year, same with the transmission, could be TH200, TH250C or TH2004R. They were mostly non CCC till 86, it could be added as an option, after 86 CCC was added no delete option. The 83-84 Hurst/Olds. 85-87 442 and 88 Cutlass were all Olds 307 powered. The Buick Regal also had the sbc drive train if a V8 was ordered.

I've read over the years that this was the case with regards to the Buick/Olds having the Chevy motors in Canada. It was always surprise to me because all of the later Buick/Olds that I had experience with here in the US had Old's engines. I wonder what was the main driving factor in GM making this decision?

My understanding is that they only had to certify one motor for emissions, produced in Canada. The B,C,D and E body Buick's and Olds were all Olds powered, in fact some Caprice's were Olds 307 powered, all US made cars like the G body Olds I mentioned with sold in Canada add on pack. The Pontiac's sold in Canada, save a few models, the Pontiac powered cars, probably also US manufacturered cars, the rest were chevy powered since either the late 50's or early 60's.

Are their visual cues that would tell me if it's a Chevy or an olds motor?

Was searching around some more and what I found is that I have a 307 Olds motor in the car. The 8th digit in my VIN is a Y which corresponds to an Olds 307. So the swap I was planning will be more involved than I had thought.
