Installed this fuel pressure regulator today...

Before I attached the hose back to the carburetor, I attached my fuel pump pressure gauge and checked to see if the pressure was what I adjusted it to using the fuel pressure regulator... I adjusted it to "5" but wasn't showing that on my gauge, but dropped it from 7.5 to 6.5 and the engine seems to be running significantly better...

I have to wait until Friday for my carburetor calibration kit and rebuild kit to arrive and take it apart, to adjust and clean everything... And hopefully get these RPMS to drop with the engine running smoothly and no stalling.

And my rebuild journey begins... Got it out of there. I'll start taking it apart and cleaning it out tomorrow morning.

Here's a shot of the two gaskets between the intake manifold and carburator...

And an inspection/look down in it...

Just a quick idea, give it a try with a new base gasket. Those doubled up gaskets could of been a part of the issue.

You mean like an aluminum spacer ? A buddy of mine noticed my setup doesn't have a spacer... Could that be an issue ?

The kit I have should have a base gasket I'm assuming...

No just a good single carb to intake gasket. It could of been a possiblility that the two gaskets were't making a good seal.

The gasket is what you expect, a seal. Purpose of the spacer is to add distance from the I take and lessen heat absorption, which, on SOME engine builds that run hot in high heat summer temps could experience fuel bowl boil, etc.

Some guys double gaskets to get extra distance. Some guys double gaskets because surfaces become warped. Problem is, you can leak between the layers.

Problem with running a spacer is you can run into height problems with air cleaner and/or carb stud hitting the hood, need a drop style air cleaner, etc. Guys read about someone using one in their car and don't understand its not a one size fits all situation.

Thats all so you understand the theories behind the short and to the point answer above.

A carb base gasket itself is cheap if you didn't wind up with one. I just reloaded on some Rochester ones around $0.17-24 closeout for a variety of the mono, dual, and quadra jetted carbs.

Step up rods are different sizes by a little bit...

Should these be the same sizes on both sides or a little difference doesn't really hurt it ?

Seems to be out of adjustment... Depending on the measurement requirements (which I haven't made it to yet), either one side is too much or the other isn't enough... I'm measuring them now and I'll post an update...

Gasket seems to be in good condition...
