White smoke could be for a number of reasons.

First, make sure it’s not overheating. I believe Monte’s have an coolant gauge in the dash.

Second, do a pressure test and see if the head gasket is messed up.

Bad timing can also cause heating issues from what I understand.

And if all of that is good- then it’s probably a leaking exhaust manifold. Don’t worry about it.

Shouldn't be overheating, unless the temp sensor is faulty...takes forever to show 180°F on the gauge...like 10-15 minutes...is that normal ?

"Pressure test" meaning a cylinder compression test ?

I actually finished correctly timing this engine today... Initial is 12° BTDC and the balancer mark is hitting the 0° on the timing tab... Total timing is 36° @ 2500 rpm...and when I checked initial timing after setting total timing, the balancer mark still hits 0°... I'm assuming timing is finally correct.

The smoke doesn't smell sweet...like coolant.

I’d say that’s fairly normal. If you want to make sure, you can always install a new thermostat considering how cheap they are.

And no that is a leak down test, which you can do also but I’m talking about testing pressure in the radiator here bud.

It could also be a small bit of air in the coolant as well.

My advice, replace the thermostat, gasket and rad cap man. Then run the Monte for 30 minutes with the heat on max, while the rad cap off for the time. Rev the engine to 2500 RPM every few minutes, and then squeeze the upper hose a few times- you will see some bubbles but will become less obvious.

Add coolant as necessary, and then put the radiator cap on. Shut the car off then, and check the coolant levels in the reserve tank in the morning.

Sorry for the late response, I had to come out of town to install a head gasket for some extra cash for parts...

Just ordered an Edelbrock 17301 4-7 psi Fuel Pump to bring my fuel pressure down to 5.5 as needed for my 1405 Edelbrock carb.

I also bought a leak down test kit to use and look for cylinder leaks...

I'll be back at home tonight to do my compression test...

Quick question...

How important is it that I remove every spark plug at the same time to do a compression test, versus pulling them out one at a time as I test a cylinder ?

Did a compression test last night (all spark plugs removed) and I'm pleased with the results this time around...

I wonder what was causing the low readings the first time in August (1 spark plug removed at a time)? 🤨🧐🤷🏾‍♂...
