This is a very open ended question, but what do you guys know about CF connecting rods?

From what I understood this is very very new technology and save for F1 race teams basically no one has them. The ones I saw were being developed by Lambo (2017) in a forging type mfg process where the fibers are random directions (more strength).

But there has been some chatter about CF rods for LS motors and others. The pictures I've seen of them look exactly like the GRP alum. rods, but in CF and with a perfectly straight pattern, meaning they were hand-laid.

In the offbrand world, someone who just started the business is coming out with a 4000hp aftermarket engine block, and CF rods, and my BS meter is going off. So i was just curious if anyone knows who is making these CF rods or strength/pricing info if available.

They are definitely real and coming, but its just the timing and availability thats making me skeptical. CF pistons arent far behind either.

Wellston, OK
Seems like it would be a LOT of money for negligible gains in anything other than an all-out competition engine

I was really questioning the pistons until I looked at the picture and it is showing just the skirts, I can't imagine the carbon fiber could handle the heat of the combustion chamber even with some new tech coatings.
Like any specialty CF items I would expect the price to be only affordable to well funded race teams and individuals.

This one says only $18,000 for a set, I think I can live with our current technology.

Stronger than aluminum, nothing about titanium

The original Acura NSX had titanium connecting rods. Personally, I think that would be a better way to go than CF. Main advantage would be revving potential. You’re probably limited more in a pushrod engine with valve float than reciprocating mass.

It's a thing but I don't think this will ever be a common technology. We'll be all electric before we're ponying up for $20k+ rotating assemblies.
