My 1986 Cutlass won't accelerate past 20-30 miles MPH.

Damn. It's always had a slight vaccuum leak, but the car is really slow now after changing the tank. A fueline had a bad leak and I drove to the store while it was leaking, dropped the tank again and replaced the rubber hose from the sending unit, the hard line from the rubber hose and then the other rubber hose going into the other hard line.

No more leak.

But it's still spuddering like it was when it was leaking but slightly improved the problem.

Did I simply just put the house clamps on too tight? Is that even possible?

I put some old gas mixed with fresh gas in my tank to get her running... Is it bad gas??

I put some 89 gas in my tank, along with Octane booster, I can tell she wants to TAKE OFF because Lshe will JUMP FORWARD for 1 second then go back to mediocre *ss speed.

I just did a tune up a couple months ago.

Also the car is REEKING of gas as you drive and makes you dizzy behind the wheel.

What is the cause of this, possibly???

Have you looked under the hood?

Any leaks under there?

I would check the carb base gasket

if you smell gas it's leaking. What pick up did you use?

I'm not sure what a pick up is

But I used a 1/4th brake line in replacement of a fuel line and 1/4th rubber hoses, low pressure.

This is the smallest line from the tank's sending unit.

That's the one that was leaking and has since stopped leaking since I replaced it.

Since you changed the tank, is it venting and are the rubber hoses right for a vacuum system. They could be collapsing under fuel suction.

What do you meaning collapsing? The hose could be compressing together, in other words?
Picture plugging the bottom end of a soda straw and sucking on the top end.
Does it feel like it is running out of gas? If not, have you changed or moved any of the vacuum lines? Especially the one to the distributor?
