Changing to quadrajet

I have a 85 MC with a 305 it has headers with air pump and no oxygen sensor or catylic convertor runs rich all the time .I want to go with a quadrjet carb do I need to change dist too I don't know how computer works .does it need oxygen sensor. I want it simple Thanks

You will need a non-computer Quadrajet as well as a non-computer HEI distribtor. You can eliminate all the rest of the CCC stuff. Try to get '78 or '79 or '80 305 units as they are set up as close as you can get to yours.

I have an older quadrajet going to buy a distributor Can I elimanate all those controls on thermostat housing What vacuum do I need

I swapped a Q jet on to the 267 of the car in the avitar. Car has headers so I eliminated the EFE valve and thermal vacuum switch (On the thermostat housing) along with any of the vacuum circuits from this diagram that I no longer needed. Removed about 5 miles of unneeded vacuum line.

May be easier to just install an O2 sensor and get it running with stock setup.

Without EGR you will need less timing. EGR dilutes the air/fuel mixture. Charcoal canister stores gas fumes- keep it.

Best advice; don't ditch a damn thing until you understand why it's there in the first place and how it works. Until you understand, leave it there.
