Hi, Daniel once again!
‘84 Caprice, 305, ccc q-jet.
Can the filter be replaced, or should I replace the whole unit? Could a clogged unit cause a rough idle…along with bad vac hoses, worn out solenoids, etc?

Because of the age and miles on the car, I’m thinking about replacing as many vacuum-related parts I can get at…if I had the money to do that!

Yes the filter can be replaced though most auto stores won't have it in stock. You will likely need to special order it.

I have found charcoal from the canister that had migrated to the carburetor. The clue was a crappy idle that nothing would cure. It doesn't take much to clog stuff up.
